The Art of Lazy Wellness Day To Recharge Your Body and Mind

INTRODUCTION to the Art of a Lazy Wellness Day

Some days, you just don’t want to try. That’s exactly when a lazy wellness day becomes your best tool for recovery.

We push ourselves hard. Both Mijung and I are go-go-go personalities. We can spend a whole week obsessing over blog edits, checking analytics, managing our bodies, and testing skincare or supplement routines. But when we burn out—we crash.

These days, it’s Mijung who leads the charge. Ever since my injury, I haven’t been able to physically handle the resets the way I used to. So Mijung stepped up and created our version of a lazy wellness day—and it’s been life-changing.

No alarms. No schedules. No guilt.

The art of a lazy wellness day is finding the most comfortable reset for your body and mind. There’s no right or wrong. Whatever fits you and your situation—if it maximizes your comfort and recovery—it counts.

This isn’t a cheat day or an excuse to binge. It’s a conscious decision to reset. Your electric vehicle needs recharging overnight—we do too. And if you live with chronic pain or burnout, pushing harder doesn’t mean healing faster.

Even without pain or health issues, our bodies are built to last—but they need rest and renewal. Whether you’re working long hours, caring for family, or traveling nonstop, a lazy wellness day will help you recharge and come back stronger.

Now, here are the 5 things we do on a lazy wellness day to restore ourselves without trying too hard.

I. WAKE UP SLOW ON YOUR LAZY WELLNESS DAY

There is no goal.

We don’t start with coffee. We don’t check emails. We don’t even sit up right away. Instead, we stay horizontal for a few minutes, letting our nervous systems gently reenter the world.

What we do instead:

  • Deep breathing in bed

  • Light stretching without getting up

  • Talking about dreams—or skipping talking altogether

  • Simply catching up on the relationship

It’s like giving your body permission to be here, instead of launching into productivity mode. This helps manage nervous system tension—especially if you’re healing from anything physical or emotional.

II. THE 3-STATION RESET

We rotate through three “stations” in the house without a plan: the couch, the floor, and the bathroom.

  • Couch Station: blanket, heat pad, herbal tea, either silence or soft background noise

  • Floor Station: breathwork, legs-up-wall, or simply staring at the ceiling

  • Bathroom Station: warm towel face press, oil cleanse, and that’s it

No workouts. No chores. These are soft rituals that reset the body with almost no effort.

III. FOOD IS FUNCTION AND COMFORT

We don’t cook much on a lazy wellness day… but we do warm things up. Sometimes, we prep ahead. Other times, we throw one healing dish on the stove—something warm, simple, and comforting like ginseng chicken soup.

We choose recipes we can finish in under 30 minutes with our pressure cooker—deeply nourishing and easy to digest.

IV. MICRO-ACTIONS ONLY

On a lazy wellness day, we give ourselves credit for even the smallest actions:

  • Washing our face = win

  • Lying on the acupressure mat = win

  • Changing into clean lounge clothes = win

  • Brushing our hair slowly = win

These little wins build momentum without stress. Sometimes we light a candle. Other times, we watch a Korean drama or just sit in quiet.

V. CLOSING RITUAL (NO MATTER WHAT)

We always end the day with intention—even if we did nothing else.

Before bed, we:

  • Wash up with warm water and a calming oil

  • Write one thing we’re grateful for

  • Do two minutes of breathwork or prayer

It’s a gentle reminder that rest is self-respect.

Vi. OUR LAZY WELLNESS DAY GOALS (Protocol)

this is a Goal — Not a Must

  1. Sleep in and take a nap in the afternoon

  2. Eat well – we load up on fruits and warm healing foods

  3. Move gently – walk, yoga, kayak, or stretch outdoors… or skip it guilt-free

  4. Bum around the house – binge shows, lay flat, rest your body

  5. Have a moment to yourself – peace to collect yourself and plan ahead

  6. Meditate and breathe deeply – listen to whatever calms you (even rock music counts)

  7. Laugh and enjoy the day – because life is too short not to

FINAL THOUGHT ON LAZY WELLNESS DAYS

Wellness isn’t always pretty. Some days you need to push. Other days, you need to surrender.

A lazy wellness day is a planned pause—a strategic choice to reset your system. It’s not just about comfort. It’s about better sleep, more clarity, creative energy, improved mood, and avoiding burnout before it takes hold.

Yes, that sounds a bit corporate. I know—because I come from that world. It was hard for me to embrace the idea of slowing down. But Mijung helped me see it differently.

When done right, a lazy wellness day feels like a one-day vacation—without leaving your house. Try it. You can take one any day of the week when you need it most.

Take it. Use it. And don’t feel bad about it.

Your next good day starts with giving yourself one lazy one. That’s why we always keep this ritual on standby.
